Tottenham Hotspur have pulled off one of the biggest moves of the summer by agreeing a deal for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano followed with his trademark "Here we go," confirming that the deal is effectively complete.
Spurs Continue Their Spending Spree
Tottenham have shown no intention of slowing down in the transfer market after last season's disappointing campaign.
The North London club has already strengthened its defence with Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and recently completed the signing of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United. Now, the midfield has become the latest priority, with Tonali set to become the marquee addition of the summer.
According to reports, Spurs have agreed to pay up to £100 million for the Italian international. The package consists of £92.5 million guaranteed, while another £7.5 million could be triggered through performance-related bonuses, including qualification for the UEFA Champions League league phase.
The midfielder is expected to undergo his medical in the coming days before putting pen to paper on a long-term contract.
Tottenham Preempts Others
Tonali's arrival will rewrite Tottenham's transfer history.
The Italy international is set to become the most expensive signing the club has ever made, comfortably surpassing the previous record fee paid for Xavi Simons.
Spurs will spend a fortune on their player, but they gain not only an excellent player. They also win a battle against league rivals who were vying for the Italian's signature – including local rivals Arsenal. This is a significant signal for Spurs. Club officials reportedly pushed hard to secure the deal, viewing Tonali as a cornerstone of Roberto De Zerbi's rebuilding project.
"Here We Go" Ends the Speculation
Romano's famous confirmation leaves little doubt that only administrative steps remain before the transfer becomes official.
Tonali joined Newcastle in 2023 and established himself as one of the Premier League's most reliable midfielders. Across 79 league appearances, he scored five goals and contributed four assists.
Now the 25-year-old begins a new chapter in North London, where expectations will be high as Tottenham look to re-establish themselves among England's elite and return to competing at the top of the Premier League.
