Ferran Torres could leave FC Barcelona after the World Cup. The Spanish international is reportedly interested in joining Paris Saint-Germain, while discussions over extending his contract with the Catalan club have failed to produce meaningful progress.

Ferran Torres gives green light to PSG transfer

According to reports from Luka Bendoni and Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona have been informed that Paris Saint-Germain represent a serious option for Torres. The 26-year-old is understood to be open to moving to the French capital and beginning a new stage of his career after the World Cup.

PSG are already believed to know the financial conditions Torres would expect. Reaching an agreement with the player should therefore not be a major obstacle, although the French champions must still negotiate a transfer fee with Barcelona.

Torres is currently focused on Spain’s World Cup campaign, but his club situation will require a decision in the coming weeks. His Barcelona contract runs until June 30, 2027, which means the upcoming transfer window may be the club’s final opportunity to receive a significant fee rather than risk losing him for a reduced amount or for nothing a year later.

Talks over a new contract have slowed down and no breakthrough has been achieved. Barcelona have not completely ruled out keeping the forward, but an extension is becoming increasingly difficult, particularly now that Torres has reportedly shown interest in PSG’s project.

Luis Enrique is considered one of the main supporters of the transfer. The PSG head coach worked with Torres during his time in charge of the Spanish national team and values his ability to operate in several attacking positions.

The former Manchester City player can feature on either wing, lead the attack as a centre-forward or play behind another striker. His versatility would suit a PSG system built around movement, positional rotations and aggressive attacking football.

Torres would also bring considerable experience. He has competed in LaLiga, the Premier League and the Champions League, while becoming a regular member of the Spanish national team.

Barcelona could cash in after Torres’ best scoring season

Torres has just completed his most productive goalscoring campaign since joining Barcelona. He found the net 21 times in 49 appearances, helping the club win LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup.

His performances were not always consistent, and he still faced criticism for missing clear opportunities. Nevertheless, his final numbers underline his importance to the squad, even though he was not guaranteed a place in the starting line-up.

Since arriving from Manchester City, Torres has made 207 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 65 goals and providing 23 assists. He has often been used as a rotation player, but his ability to cover several positions has allowed him to remain an important part of the team.

A potential sale would also fit Barcelona’s financial strategy. Moving on a player who is entering the final year of his contract could generate a substantial transfer fee and reduce the club’s wage bill.

Barcelona are simultaneously reshaping their attacking options. The club has reportedly agreed a deal to sign Karim Adeyemi, whose arrival would create additional competition on the wings and make Torres’ departure easier to manage.

No final agreement has yet been reached between Barcelona and PSG. Torres’ willingness to consider the move is, however, an important development that could accelerate negotiations after the World Cup.

PSG have been monitoring the Spaniard for some time, with several leading transfer reporters previously linking him with the French champions. He could also help replace Gonçalo Ramos, who has left Paris for AC Milan.

Should the clubs agree on the financial terms, Torres would end a stay of more than four years at Barcelona. For PSG, the deal would provide Luis Enrique with an experienced and tactically flexible forward who already understands his methods.
