Nico Paz will not return to Real Madrid for the 2026/2027 season. The Spanish club have confirmed an agreement with Como, while the player himself has explained why he wanted to stay in Italy for another year.
Paz to remain at Como
Real Madrid, Como and Nico Paz have reached an agreement that will keep the Argentine midfielder in Serie A for the 2026/2027 campaign. Although Madrid had a buy-back clause worth €9 million, the club decided not to bring him back immediately.
Instead, Como will keep the player after agreeing new terms with Real. According to media reports, the Italian club paid around €60 million to secure the arrangement. Real Madrid, however, have protected their long-term interests and will retain a buy-back option for the 2027/2028 season, reportedly set at €80 million.
For Como, this is a major sporting statement. Paz has developed into one of the team’s key players and has played an important role in their rise toward the top of Serie A.

Player explains his decision
Real Madrid confirmed that the agreement was reached at the player’s request. Paz also addressed the decision publicly, saying that staying at Como is the best step for his development.
The midfielder believes another season in Italy will give him the platform to grow further and prepare properly for the next stage of his career. From his perspective, the decision benefits both him and Real Madrid.
The case is therefore not a clean separation. Madrid are allowing Paz to continue his progress in an environment where he has regular minutes and responsibility, while keeping the option to bring him back in the future.
For now, Como keep their leader, Paz gets stability, and Real Madrid maintain control over a player they still clearly value.
