Casemiro appears to have settled on the next stage of his career. After deciding against extending his stay at Manchester United, the Brazilian midfielder is now close to joining a new project that would create one of the more surprising dressing-room combinations in recent years.
Casemiro close to new chapter after Manchester United spell
Casemiro is expected to continue his career at Inter Miami, according to information attributed to Fabrizio Romano. The Brazilian midfielder has reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms with the MLS side and should soon be presented as their new player.
The move would close his spell at Manchester United, where his situation had shifted significantly over the last year. After a difficult previous campaign, Casemiro managed to rebuild part of his reputation with stronger performances, which led some supporters to believe he could remain at Old Trafford for another season.
That will not happen. The 34-year-old had already decided earlier this year that he would not activate an extension option or sign a fresh contract with Manchester United.
A surprising reunion with an old rival
Inter Miami pushed hardest for Casemiro once it became clear he would be available. After lengthy talks, the American club is now said to be on the verge of completing the deal.
The transfer is notable because Casemiro would share a dressing room with Lionel Messi. The two faced each other many times during the Real Madrid–Barcelona rivalry, with Casemiro often playing a key role in trying to limit the Argentine’s influence.
His Manchester United chapter ends with 160 appearances, 26 goals and 14 assists. During his time in England, he won the FA Cup and the League Cup with the club.
